The Directorate of Fisheries has a statutory authority for processing personal data in the Regulation of 19 December 2014 No. 1822 on electronic reporting for Norwegian fishing vessels of less than 15 metres (Regulations relating to the coastal fishing app).

1 The Directorate of Fisheries’ processing of personal data

The Directorate of Fisheries is committed to protecting and respecting your privacy. We process personal data in accordance with the privacy legislation in force at any given time. This data privacy statement describes the personal data we receive and collect, and what we do to protect your personal data.

The Directorate of Fisheries is the data controller for the processing of personal data collected in the Coastal Fisheries app. The Director of Fisheries has the formal and overall responsibility. The Directorate of Fisheries has appointed a data protection officer, who can be contacted by e-mail 

2 The basis and purpose of the data processing

When the Directorate of Fisheries processes personal data related to the Coastal Fisheries app, we do so because this is necessary to perform a task that is in the general public’s interest or to exercise the official authority that is the responsibility of the data controller, cf. GDPR Art. 6 (1) letter e.

The purpose of collecting and processing personal data in the Coastal Fisheries app is to facilitate efficient regulation of fisheries, control of resource extraction and a better basis for statistics and research by using electronic systems and digital communication to report activity and catches.

3 Personal data that we process

The Directorate of Fisheries processes the personal data that you provide when you register as a user.

The Directorate of Fisheries collects personal data that is reported in accordance with the provisions of the Regulation on electronic reporting for Norwegian fishing vessels of less than 15 metres (Regulation relating to the coastal fishing app) sections 4-8, which includes name and position, among other things. The Coastal Fishing app only collects location information at the time it is set up and a landing message is sent. Positional information is not collected and will not be stored at any other time.

The Directorate of Fisheries uses Google Firebase and Google Analytics in the app for usage pattern analysis. Usage pattern information is used in aggregated form to improve the app. The information collected is anonymised and cannot be traced back to individual users.

4 Who we share information with  

The Directorate of Fisheries shares the information that is collected with the Coast Guard, and may share information with other control authorities pursuant to the Marine Resources Act, section 49 first paragraph.

The Directorate of Fisheries uses an external operating supplier, which is responsible for operating the Coastal Fisheries app. Specific data processing agreements have been entered into between the Directorate of Fisheries and our data processing companies which regulate the information that the suppliers have access to and how it is to be processed.

5 How long we store data

The Directorate of Fisheries keeps collected information for control purposes and for statistical purposes.

6 Your rights

As a registered user, you are entitled to access the information that is kept about you at any time. In the event that you discover that the information we have about you is incorrect, you have the right to demand that the information is corrected. Messages submitted may be corrected pursuant to the provisions of section 12 of the Regulation relating to the coastal fishing app.
